The gut and brain are in constant conversation
Stress, anticipation and previous flare-ups can teach the brain to monitor the gut closely. A small sensation is noticed quickly, interpreted as the beginning of a problem and followed by more tension and urgency.
Gut-directed hypnotherapy focuses on that brain-gut communication. The aim is to reduce the automatic alarm around symptoms and help you rebuild confidence in your body's ability to regulate.
What we work on
You may understand the issue perfectly and still notice that your body or behaviour responds before logic has time to catch up. My work combines psychotherapy and hypnotherapy to identify the automatic pattern and help your mind learn a different response.
Sessions are tailored to what happens for you, including fear of being away from a toilet, bowel urgency before leaving home, food-related worry and the expectation that symptoms will ruin an event.
We can focus on:
- Anxiety around gut sensations
- Urgency before leaving home
- Fear of being caught without a toilet
- The stress and flare-up cycle
